skipping across the quad
no one is watching

sunglasses slip
as she flies across campus
on her bike

the treadmill
girls going nowhere
but boys eyes follow

he kicks it up a notch
every time she walks by

top quarter champion

top half champion

yoga instruction
the Downward-Facing Dog
just for her

little girl twirls in sunlight
her version
of a sun salutation

breath the spring air
stretch your child’s pose

muscles held tight,
he mimics
the crane

top half champion

bottom half champion

pool deck
take your mark
head full of silence

grey drizzle-run
two more miles
then breakfast

I pass on seconds
my bikini is waiting
for summer

mother says
one day you’ll be pretty

top quarter champion

bottom half champion

bottom quarter champion

he boards the plane
but can’t look back
strength of a husband

chemo clinic
scarf around her head
she talks about the weather

secretly watching
he adores her strength
a single mother

standing once again
her muscles groan
tiny fingers squeeze hers
