Memories of Life:
Selected Haiku

Cassandra Long

In the beginning I wasn’t sure what I was getting into when I signed up for this haiku class. I was scared that it would be hard and difficult. But it wasn’t either it was fun and created. Haiku makes you think back into your life history. Dr. Randy Brooks taught us how to read, listen and visualize a haiku. I’m very glad that I took the class. I really enjoyed listening to the other class mates’ haiku they created.

Winter snow falls
from the sky
deers stands quietly

         The Beach

clear blue sky
seagulls overhead
sand between my toes               LB

         overfilled pails
         sandcastles in a row        LB

two girls splashing
water in the sea
as waves float in

an old woman
gathering seashells
thinks back in time

         the sunset sparkles
on the deep blue sea         CL

starlit sky
water washing the shore
sand crab footprints

Winter zero below
home cozy and warm
drinking hot chocolate

Summer hot sizzling
kids running and playing
in water

bright eyes laughing
cooing loudly

Winter first snow
kids try making snowman
soft snow

streets are calm
snow shimmers
covered trees
